About

Youth are the future architect of India, on whose shoulders lies the responsibility of conserving all that is best in the country. For this , there was a need to strengthen a system of value education that would foster universal and eternal values, oriented towards the unity and integration of the country, and help to eliminate violence, fanaticism and fatalism, value oriented education will go a long way in inculcating in the youth a spirit of service, nationalism and patriotism.

NCC in our College

The year 1979-80 has been a memorable year with the introduction of NCC for women students in our college. The activities of the first platoon of 50 NCC cadets were inaugurated on 7th September 1979 by Major P.C.Karumbaiah, Officer Commanding, 5 TamilNadu Girls Battalion NCC, Coimbatore.

  • Selvi M.Ratnabai, Physical Directress, took charge of NCC from December 79 after attending Pre-Commission in Gwalior
  • Lt.R.Parvathi, was the NCC Officer from October 2001 to May 2005
  • Dr.J.Suguna, Associate Professor of Computer Science was the Care taker from may 2005 to June 2006
  • Capt. N.Kavitha, took charge as Company Commander from July 2006 onwards.

Till the year 2016-2017 the strength of the cadets was 55.

In the year 2017-2018 the strength of the contingent has been raised to the strength of 104 with two platoons.

Aim

To develop qualities, character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.

  • To create a human resource of organised, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life including the Armed Forces and be always available for the service of the nation.
  • To create a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in Armed Forces.

Youth Red Cross (YRC)

Preamble

The Youth Red Cross Society aims to serve people under distress without any consideration of caste, religion, language and nationality. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, co-operation and peace amongst all people. The Fundamental Principles of Red Cross Movement are Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary service, Unity and Universality.

Objectives:

  • To motivate the volunteers to train and develop leadership quality and over all personality improvement by organizing and participating in the various activities
  • To promote hygienic lifestyles by enhancing their health and personal care
  • To educate the population on emergency relief services for the victims of disasters and mitigation of their suffering
  • To promote the Fundamental Principles of the Movement and the International Humanitarian Law in order to inculcate humanitarian ideals among the population, in particular among children and youth.
  • To recruit, train and develop volunteers for undertaking humanitarian responsibilities
  • To conduct programmes like rain Water harvesting, recycling the waste, maintenance of compost pits and green house to initiate eco-friendly surroundings in the college premises

GREEN SOCIETY

Objectives

As per the CDC recommendations Green Society has been introduced in addition to NCC, NSS, Physical Education, YRC under Part V Extension activity of Course content and scheme of examination for 2013 – 14 onwards. The Green Society syllabus was approved by Botany Board of Studies meeting held on 09.03.2013.

Citizen Consumer Club (CCC)

CITIZEN CONSUMER CLUB (CCC)

The Citizen Consumer Club of Vellalar College for Women (Autonomous) is affiliated to the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Center, Government of Tamil Nadu, which was established on 4th September during the academic year 2004-2005. The club has evolved its own objectives in aligning to achieve the common goal of the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Center, Government of TamilNadu.

OBJECTIVES

  • To enable the students to understand fundamental rights of a citizen and make them realize and learn the fundamental duties of the good citizen.
  • To spread awareness on consumer rights amongst all consumer segments.
  • To sensitize the manufacturers and service providers on consumer rights and quality.
  • To promote sustainable consumption of Consumer products.
  • To acclimatize laws for protection/welfare of consumers and enforcement authorities concerned.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL (EDC)

Entrepreneurship is a key pillar to upkeep the country’s economic growth and development, employment prospects and innovation. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell aims to support by providing a platform for identifying business opportunities and to inculcate a culture of innovation driven entrepreneurship among the young aspirants. It motivates its student members to become successful entrepreneurs through its training programs and activities. It nurture the talents of youth by sensitizing them on various aspects of industrial activities.

OBJECTIVES

  • To trigger the Entrepreneurial instinct in the students.
  • To hone and train the students in the Entrepreneurial skills.
  • To impact basic managerial skills and understandings in order to run the business efficiently.
  • To make the students realize the significance of opting as a career option.

ACTIVITIES TO BE UNDERTAKEN

  • Guest lectures on project feasibility, preparation of business plan, incentives and other financial assistances etc.,
  • Entrepreneurial skill training
  • Motivational talks and soft skill training by eminent personalities.
  • Sharing of experiences by successful Entrepreneurs in/around the city highlighting the necessary caliber, requisite assistance, problems faced etc.,

ACTIVITIES (2018-19)

Open Defecation

The cell organized an awareness programme on “Open Defecation” to general public and hands-on-training on paper bag, file and greeting card making to Villarasampatti primary school students on 02.08.2018 and 18.09.2018 respectively.

Special meeting on “Women Empowerment and Entrepreneurship”

A special meeting was conducted on “Women Empowerment and Entrepreneurship” on 26.09.2018. Jc. Du. Velumani, Managing Director, Certified Zone Trainer, Erode addressed the members and enriched the knowledge on entrepreneurship in real life.

Other Activities

  • Seven of our EDC members enthusiastically participated in the UGC sponsored National Symposium on “Economic Sustainability through Entrepreneurship” conducted by Erode Arts and Science College, Erode on 09.01.2019.
  • The cell also organized an awareness programme on “Plastic Free Environment” in Thindal Temple, Thindal on 05.02.2019.
  • On 13.02.2019 the cell conducted various competitions like Wealth from Waste, Essay Writing and prizes were distributed to the winners.
  • 20 students of primary school at Chinnapuliyur Village (UBA Adopted) were imparted with the techniques in making paper bags and files on 15.02.2019.
  • To enrich the practical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills, the cell has organized a special meeting on 18.02.2019. Mr. Mohan Kumar addressed the members and motivated them.

    Special Meeting

    Entrepreneurship Development Cell jointly with Yi Erode YUVA Vertical has organized a special meeting on 12/09/2019 for the EDC students.Mr. P. Naveen Kumar, National and State Youth Awardee, Sociopreneur and Founder of ARCHAYAM Trust, Namakkal has led the meeting on the topic “Opportunities and Challenges of Social Entrepreneurship”.

    Students’ Participation in Training Programme

    Two of our members have actively participated in training programme on “Business Model and Business Plan” organized by Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Chennai and EEDISSIA, Erode from 16.12.2019 to 27.12.2019.

    Students’ Participation in Awareness Programme

    Three of our members have participated in the awareness programme on “Digital Marketing” organized by Entrepreneurial Development and Innovation Institute, Chennai and EEDISSIA on 05.02.2020.

    Workshop on Clay Mural Art

    The cell has organized a workshop on “Clay Mural Art” on 12.02.2020 for EDC students in SCS Hall. Mrs. S. Gokila Senthil, B.Sc. (CDF), Proprietress, Rhythm colors and Arts, Tirupur taught the students about the Art and brought out their artistic talents. The students also gave feedback stating that this workshop of learning Clay Mural art would surely benefit them in future.

    A Talk Show – Chat with an Entrepreneur

    Entrepreneurship Development Cell and TYCOON (Business Administration) Association jointly organized the Talk Show – “A Chat with an Entrepreneur” on 14th February, 2020. Ms. Anjali Khanwani, Owner, Sweet Retreat, Cakes and Chocolates, Erode shared her experiences and motivated the students to be passionate towards starting a business venture and also discussed about the available business opportunities for women. Around 50 EDC members actively participated.

    Students’ Participation in Interdisciplinary Symposium

    Twenty-four of our members have participated in DBT- STAR College sponsored one day Interdisciplinary Symposium on “Entrepreneurship Strategies in Sericulture and Apiculture ” organised by Department of Zoology on 26.02.2020.

Webinar

Entrepreneurship Development Cell organized a webinar on “Innovation and Creativity – A backbone for an Entrepreneur” on 15th November, 2020. Mr.Jc.B.Saravana Kumar, Properitor, Thulir Furniture Inc. Erode addressed the students on the importance of innovation and creativity for entrepreneur.

Biodiversity Club

Preamble

The club focuses on generating awareness on the wide range of social and ecological values of Bio diversity

Objectives

  • To equip and create biodiversity awareness among younger generations and to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature.
  • To conserve local area’s natural resources/
  • To give an exposure to the flora and fauna of the ecosystem through nature camps.
  • To create clean and green consciousness among students through various innovative methods.
  • To conduct various competitions related to biodiversity conservation.

Activities

  • To promote ethos of conservation of water by minimizing the use of water.
  • Organizing workshops based on Biodiversity.
  • Organizing natural trial in wild life sanctuaries/ parks/ forest areas to know about the biodiversity and nature.
  • The club promotes recycling, composting, organic gardening and efficient use of land.
  • To organize marches, human chain at public places with a view to spread the conservation of endangered species.
  • To conduct various competitions like quiz, poster writing, essay writing, drawing, debate on biodiversity conservation every year.
  • Participating actively in various extension activities like organic farming, planting trees etc for the nearby public.
  • 2018-19 Activities
  • The club organized an awareness programme on “Oral Defection” to general public and Government Elementary School students in Verappanpalayam on 21.8.2018.
  • In a special meeting on 12.2.2019 Dr.V.S. KAVITHA, Asst. professor, Department of Zoology, Vellalar College for Women, Thindal, delivered a speech on “Animals and It’s Nature”, to create awareness about the importance of animals and its nature.
  • To gain knowledge about “The diversity of bird species” a field trip was organized to Vellode Bird Sanctuary on 12.02.2019.
  • A competition was organized for the Bio diversity club students on 18.02.2019 under the title “Man Vs Wild Life”, the club member’s enthustically participated in the Poster Presentation and exhibited their creativity. The prizes were awarded to the winners.
  • To create awareness among the school students on “The importance of science in human life”. The Bio diversity club students conducted a programme at Government school, Thindal on 20.02.2019. B.ABIRAMI Asst. professor, Department of Costume Design and Fashion, delivered an informative speech on ”Science in Everyday Life”.
  • To create awareness among the school students on “The importance of Healthy practices in day to day life” the club students conducted a awareness programme at PUE School, T.Vellode on 20.02.2019. Dr.M.Sangeetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, delivered a speech on “Day to Day Healthy Practices”.
  • 2019-20 Activities
  • An Orientation Programme was organized for the freshers of the Bio diversity club on 15.07.2019 and the objectives of the club were discussed.
  • On 29.07.2019 “International Tiger’s Day” was observed in the College campus and the programme’s like message to college students, Tying rakhi, displaying placards etc. were done.
  • A field trip to “sericulture farm”, Athani was organized for the club members on 06.09.2019 to acquire knowledge on the rearing techniques of Silkworm.
  • On 08.08.19, an awareness programme on “Water Resource Management” was organized with JAL SHAKTHI ABIYAN, for Public and College students, to create awareness about Conservation of Water Resources.
  • To get expertise in the “Silk reeling techniques” a visit was arranged for the club students to the silk reeling unit, Padiyur on 07.09.2019
  • “Wildlife week” was observed by the club on 03.10.2019. In the connection, a trekking was organized at Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, Hassnur to create awareness about the Wildlife
  • The club organized a Cleaning Programme on 04.10.19, at Vellalar College for Women campus. The volunteers of the club create an awareness among the students regarding cleanliness and its benefits.
  • In the continuation of wildlife week celebration the students attended an awareness programme on “Wildlife conservation” organized by the Forest Department, Sathyamangalam Forest Range on 09.10.2019.
  • On 12.10.2019 a visit was organized to “Bird Santuary”, Mukaneri, Salem. The students enthuastically visited and observed different bird species.

Enviro Club

ENVIRO CLUB

Preamble

Our aim is to create awareness of environmental issues, such as protection, conservation, preservation, and restoration, with an emphasis on educating and empowering students. Students who are interested in environmental advocacy and awareness are encouraged to join.

Objectives

  • To perform actions to improve the campus environment
  • To instill a sense of responsibility about environment and a personal commitment to protect and preserve the environment
  • To create ‘green consciousness’ among students through various innovative methods
  • To create awareness of biodiversity conservation and local environmental issues among students.
  • To promote the collaboration with other organizations and associations to solve local environmental problems

Activities

  • Action based activities like tree plantation, cleanliness drives both within and outside the college campus
  • Organize seminars, debates, lectures and popular talks on environmental issues in the college
  • Campaign against banned carry bags and banned fireworks
  • Visits environmentally important sites including polluted and degraded sites and wildlife parks,
  • Organize rallies, marches, human chains and street theatre at public places with a view to spread environmental awareness.
  • Grow kitchen gardens, maintain vermi-composting pits, and construct water harvesting structures in college.
  • Mobilize action against environmentally unsound practices like garbage disposal in unauthorized places and unsafe disposal of wastes.
  • Arrange Nature Camps and Nature Walk
  • Celebrate important environmental days
  • Hold an e-waste (electronic components) collection and recycling day
  • 2019-20 Activities
  • An Orientation programme was organized for the Enviro – Club members on 18.08.2019. Dr.G.Jayanthi, Assistant Professor of Botany (Enviro club co-ordinator) addressed the students of Enviro club.
  • The Ozone Day was celebrated on 16.09.2019 by the club volunteers with the theme “Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On”.
  • Enviro-club of Vellalar College for Women organized a tree plantation and cleaning programme on 27.09.2019 at Vellalar College for Women Campus. The volunteers of the Enviro-club planted around 100 saplings in the campus.
  • The Biodiversity conservation week was celebrated in our college campus with the mission towards the saving of flora and fauna on 09.10.2019. As a part, 10 tree saplings were planted in our college campus and our secretary Thiru. S. D. Chandrasekar and Principal Dr. N. Maragatham inaugurated the programme by planting the first tree sapling in the college campus.

Preamble

To influence the habits, attitude and knowledge of individuals and community on health and wellness and thereby modify their behavior towards the attainment of wholesome health.

Objectives

  • To instill a sense of responsibility about health and personal care
  • To educate and cultivate an appreciation and interest in the wellness of the society
  • To promote hygienic lifestyles by enhancing their understanding about water, air, food, soil, sanitation and hygiene
  • To motivate the members to take up leadership roles and responsibilities through awareness seminars and medical camps
  • To ensure the provision of comprehensive health and nutrition education and related support services which will equip the members with basic life skills for healthy living

MEDIA CLUB

Objective

As per the UGC guidelines the “Career and Counseling Cell” of our college support to its students makes them confident to perform better. The objective is to support the students in the development of soft skills and communication ability to challenge the rigors of competitive tests. Informing, Educating, Facilitating and Supporting Career focused student development activities through Seminars and Workshops. Give counseling to the needy students on personality development related and academic related issues and extending the Career Guidance Activities.

Activities

2018-19

  • The Career and Counseling Cell has organized a programme on “Step into success by Developing Self-Esteem” on 31.08.2018. Ms. R. Indira, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce(CA), Kongu Arts and Science College, Karur acted as Resource Person. The narration of her own experiences by the resource person laid a living example for the students and enriched the programme with liveliness.
  • Career and Counseling Cell organized a programme on “An Intro Tnpsc Aspirants” on 19.09.2018.The session was taken over by the Chief Guest Mr. K. P. Durai Murugan, Coordinator & Trainer of TNPSC Exam, Vellalar IAS Academy with the participation of nearly 100 students of both UG & PG.
  • The Cell has organized a programme on 08.02.2019 the Resource Person Ms. A. Palaniappan, D.E.E., B. Lit, M.A., Senior Signals & Telecommunication Engineer, Sothern Railway (Retd.) Chennai, made an excellent speech on “Top Career for Women Graduates”.
  • The Career and Counseling Cell organized a workshop on “High way to Higher Education” on 07. 03.2019. Ms. Pavithra Rajesh, Students counselor, Education matters, Erode was the resource person. Nearly 120 students were beneficiary.

2019-20

  • Career and Counseling Cell of our college conducted “Wheebox National Eligibility Test (WNET)” at our college campus for all pre – final and final year graduates on 30.10.2019 and 31.10.2019 to identify core strengths and improvement areas of our students.
