Self – Employment Training and Start up Centre

The Self – Employment Training and start up centre is an initiative undertaken by the college with a focus to improve the skills of women in the society thereby increasing the number of women entrepreneurs. It serves as a potential drive in building the entrepreneurial qualities among the younger generation. The centre acts as a promoter in transforming the status of people by exploiting the opportunities, new technology and various innovative schemes introduced by the Government of India by offering various training programs including the manufacturing of eco-friendly products, with a notion to make themself-employed and elevate the economy of the nation.

ACTIVITIES 2018-19

Inauguration and Workshop on Incense Sticks and Paper Bag making

The Self-Employment Training and Start-Up Centre was inaugurated by our Secretary Mr.S.D.Chandrasekar and Principal Dr.N.Maragatham on 01.09.2018. A one-day workshop was organized by Start-Up Centre for general public women on Incense Sticks and Paper Bag making wherein 25 women participants got benefited.

Workshop on Embroidery and Mixed Fruit & Pineapple Jam Making

On 08.09.2018 & 29.09.2018 the Centre has also organized one-day workshops on Embroidery and Mixed Fruit & Pineapple Jam Making respectively for general public. Around 25 women participated and were benefited out of these programmes.

Hands-on-Training on “Flower Making”

The Start-Up Centre jointly with the Department of Chemistry has organized Hands-on-Training on “Flower Making” to various Self-Help Groups in and around Erode on 07.02.2019. Mrs.Meenakshi Venkatesh, Director, Meenakshi School of Fine Arts, and Ms.S.Keerthana, Arts and Craft Teacher, Meenakshi School of Fine Arts, Erode has innovatively trained the women folks. Around 50 members were actively participated.

ACTIVITIES 2019-20

Workshop on “Mat Making”

The Self- Employment Training and Start-up centre organized a workshop on Mat Making to the final year students of our college on 13.01.2020. Dr.D.Parimala Devi, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Business Administration with CA, Vellalar College for Women (Autonomous), Erode has taught the students about different methods of mat making.

Hands-on-Training Programme on “SOAP MAKING”

The Self-Employment Training and Start-Up Centre jointly with the Department of Business Administration with Computer Applications has organised One Day Workshop on “Soap Making” on 27.01.2020. Mrs.Prema Ramesh, Teacher, Fevicryl Company, Erode and Part -Time Lecturer in Sona College, Salem demonstrated the process of making Soaps. Around 215 participants including the SHG members and students were enriched with the art of making their own soaps using natural ingredients.

Extension Activity to “Karapparai”

The Self- Employment Training and Start-up centre organized an extension activity in Karapparaai Village on 12.02.2020. The students and staff members of the centre taught the public about making of Paper bags and Mat Making from the waste clothes. The people of Karapparaai cooperated the team and learnt how to make Paper bags and colourful Mats from waste clothes available in their home.

ACTIVITIES 2020-21

On 17th April, 2021 Self- Employment Training and Start-up Centre organized “Employability Training on Mask Making and Handmade Products Making” for General Public in Google Meet. Ms. Gopika Shanmugam, Self Employment Trainer and Mehandhi Artist, Komarapalayam was the resource person.
