RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS

ATTENDANCE AND LEAVE OF ABSENCE
  • No student will be allowed to absent herself from the college without leave letter. She must apply before hand for leave of absence through the Head of the Department in the prescribed form. When absence is due to unforeseen causes, an application for leave must be submitted as early as possible and in no case later than the first day of her return to the college.
  • Absence without submitting the leave letters at the beginning and end of the semester and before and after a college holiday will entail fines.
  • A minimum attendance of 75% out of total working days of the college is necessary to be eligible to appear for the End Semester Examinations. A minimum attendance of 90% out of total working days of college is necessary to receive the scholarship.
  • Shortage of attendance in one semester shall be compensated in the subsequent semester such that combined attendance for any two consecutive semesters will be taken into account for determining the eligibility of a student to be present for the End Semester Examinations.
CONTINUOUS INTERNAL ASSESSMENT (CIA)
  • Normally, for each theory paper, 25% of mark is allotted for CIA and for each practical paper 40% of mark is allotted for CIA. The above marks may be changed as prescribed by the respective Boards of Studies and approved by the Academic Council.
  • For theory papers, the duration of tests is one hour and of model examination 3 hours. For practical papers, it is as decided by the respective Board of Studies.
  • Every candidate is required to get prior permission (before the test / model examination is conducted) from the Head of the Department and the Principal to write the test at a later date on valid reasons/ medical grounds.Where no such permission is obtained, the decision of the Head of the Department and the Principal, to hold or not to hold separate examination for any such candidate shall be final.
END SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS (ESE)
  • ESE is conducted at the end of each semester for both Theory and Practical Papers.
  • The maximum marks for ESE is normally 75 for Theory Papers and 60 for Practical Papers and the duration of examinations is 3 hours. Marks and duration may be changed if prescribed by the respective Board of Studies and approved by the Academic Council.
  • Candidates who are unable to appear for ESE due to Sports/NCC/NSS activities are permitted to appear as a special case as per Academic Council Guidelines.
  • Failure in any paper/papers in the ESE or absence from the ESE shall not cause detention of the candidate in that semester. All the registered candidates shall be promoted to the next semester.
  • A candidate is not permitted to take the ESE if,
  • she has not secured minimum attendance required
  • she has not paid all fee due to the college and / or hostel
  • found guilty of misbehavior or bad conduct
  • she commits malpractice in the examination
  • A candidate who fails in ESE may take the examination in the papers in which she failed, in the succeeding ESE onwards subject to the fulfillment of other conditions, if any.
  • The ESE results are published in the college website within 15 days from the date of last examination.
PASSING MINIMUM
  • There is no minimum pass marks for CIA.
  • The minimum mark to obtain a pass in UG Programme is 40% in ESE and 40% in the aggregate of CIA+ESE.
  • The minimum mark to obtain a pass in PG Programme is 50% in ESE and 50% in the aggregate of CIA+ESE.

TRANSPARENCY IN EVALUATION

TRANSPARENCY IN EVALUATION
  • Provision for Improvement/retotaling/revaluation/obtaining photocopy of valued answer scripts is permissible only for the current semester papers and not for any arrear paper.
  • Candidates who wish to apply for improvement, retotaling, revaluation and obtaining photocopy of valued answer scripts can apply to the Controller of Examinations through the Principal, in the prescribed format, along with the prescribed fee within 7 working days from the date of publication of results in the college web site.
  • In all the above said cases, revised mark statement will be issued after withdrawing the previous one.
PROVISION FOR IMPROVEMENT
  • A candidate who obtains a pass mark in a paper in the first attempt can reappear for the same paper in the immediately succeeding ESE only, for improving her marks.
  • Re-appearance for improvement is allowed only for theory papers.
  • Revised mark statement will be issued after withdrawing the previous one, if the marks obtained in improvement is higher than the marks awarded earlier.
  • When there is no improvement, there will not be any change in the original marks already awarded.
  • The improved marks will be considered only for classification but not for ranking
PROVISION FOR RETOTALING
  • If a candidate is not satisfied with the marks awarded in the ESE in any subject, she has the right to appeal to the Principal for the retotaling of the answer script.
  • The fee will be refunded to the candidate only if there is increase in marks.
PROVISION FOR PHOTO COPY
  • Photocopies of the answer scripts shall be made available to the candidates on request.
PROVISION FOR REVALUATION
  • If a candidate is not satisfied with the marks awarded in the ESE in any subject, she has the right to appeal to the Principal for revaluation of her answer script. The Principal shall, in consultation with the Controller of Examinations, arrange for the revaluation of the answer scripts by the External Examiners other than the original examiner.
  • A non-refundable fee as prescribed by the Finance Committee will be collected from the candidate seeking revaluation.
  • The revaluation results will be published within 15 days from the last date for applying for revaluation.
CHANGE OF SYLLABUS / PAPER
  • A candidate [UG] who fails in any of the papers in Part I shall complete the paper in 3 successive attempts in the same syllabus including the first attempt. Also, the candidate who fails in any of the papers in Part II, III& IV shall complete the paper in the same syllabus in 6 successive attempts including the first attempt. Otherwise, she has to take the examination in the syllabus in vogue at that time of her subsequent attempts.
READMISSION
  • Candidates who are readmitted to the course shall do the course in the syllabus which is originally applicable to them for a period of 5 consecutive years from the year of first admission to the course. Otherwise they have to take up the course in the syllabus in vogue at the time of readmission.

MAL PRACTICES

End Semester Examinations

The cases of Malpractices in Internal Assessment tests and End Semester Examinations shall be referred by the Principal to the Examination Committee which shall follow the approved scales of punishment given below, while dealing with the cases of malpractices

1. Possession of materials in any written form whether or not copied from the material carried/copying from another candidate (a) Expulsion from the examination hall
(b) Cancellation of performance in the paper concerned
(c) Not allowed to write the subsequent papers in that semester
(d) Cancellation of performance in all the papers already written
2. Assisting for copying (a) Expulsion from the examination hall
(b) Cancellation of performance in the paper concerned
(c) Not allowed to write the subsequent papers in that semester
3. Destruction or Suppression of evidence in any way (a) Expulsion from the examination hall
(b) Cancellation of performance in the paper concerned
(c) Not allowed to write the subsequent papers in that semester
(d) Cancellation of performance of all the papers in that semester
(e) Disqualification from appearing for subsequent end semester examination. However, the students will be permitted to attend the classes and write CIA tests.
4. Possession of calculator/ cell phone/any other device where its use is prohibited (a) Expulsion from the examination hall
(b) Cancellation of performance in the paper concerned
5. Leaving identification in any form in the answer sheet(writing name, initials, registration number in the additional books, etc)making request to award pass etc., detected during valuation (a) Cancellation of performance in the paper concerned
6. A candidate found guilty for more than one time during the course (a) Cancellation of performance of all papers at the current semester and issue of transfer certificate.
7. Other malpractices, if any not covered above (a) Discipline Committee on Examination decides appropriate punishment

All malpractices should be reported to the Chief Superintendent who in turn will forward to the COE along with the following:

  • Hall ticket
  • Incriminating materials
  • Statement from the candidate with her signature
  • Complaint from the invigilator
  • Answer script (marked with copied portion if possible)

In all cases, the candidate /candidates involved shall be sent out of the hall immediately on detection of malpractice after collecting answer script.

Internal Assessment Tests
1. Possessing forbidden material copying destruction of evidence 1.Explusion from the examination hall
2.Not allowed to write the rest of the current tests
3.Cancellation of performance of all the current internal assessment tests
2. All other offences 1.Explusion from the examination hall
2.Not allowed to write the test and rest of The current series of CIA tests
3.Cancellation of performance of all the current internal assessment tests
