PG & Research Department of English

ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND CAREER LAB

As an innovative process, PG & Research Department of English has launched the Language and Career Lab in 2006 with 30 desktops along with a main server for the benefit of the students of various departments of our college. Lab sessions have been taken up by the students individually, under the supervision of the faculty with the help of Language software specially designed to impart LSRW skills. Since 2006, the lab was functioning under Globerana, who offered specialised software for learning language through various modules with exercises in phonemes, grammar, reading and pronunciation. In 2011, lab was further extended with 30 more high-end computers. Later, the software- English lab and Skillmate, were installed with few advanced features to enhance the communicative skills of the students. As a recent undertaking, an award winning software, English Mastery, is provided by ESL Software Department, American Language Academy. The various module offered by this software are word lab, Audio lab, Text lab, Test lab, Sound sort, Audio write, Crossword and Grammar instructions. The lab holds inbuilt projectors for lecture sessions and screening visual texts. Thus, catering to the needs of the students from rural background, the lab aid them to fulfil their technical thirst and impart the job requirements in the career trajectory.

Ramanujan Mathlab and Research Centre

Mathematics Laboratory is a place where students can learn and explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems through a variety of activities using different materials. These activities may be carried out by the teacher or the student to explore, to learn, to stimulate interest and develop favourable attitude towards mathematics. The models are so designed to cater to the needs of all disciplines of students and learners in verifying formulae, results and applications.

Our Honourable Former Prime Minister, Dr. Man Mohan Singh announced the year 2012 as National Mathematics Year to recognize the contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan in connection with his 125th Birth Anniversary. In association with this, the Department of Mathematics of Vellalar College for Women has set up a Mathematics Laboratory and Research Centre in the name of “Ramanujan”. To be first of its kind among Arts and Science Colleges in Erode District, Ramanujan Mathlab and Research Centre has been established in Vellalar College for Women, Erode under XI Plan UGC – CPE (College with Potential for Excellence), DST-FIST and DBT STAR College Schemes. In addition, College Management is also supporting partial financial assistance and maintenance of the Laboratory.
