College with Potential for Excellence

CPE Scheme was introduced by UGC to identify Colleges which has attained high standards in Teaching, Research, Extension activities and hold promise of Excellence. Our College is identified as one and was conferred with CPE status for the period of five years from 2011 to 2016. CPE Phase I grant was sanctioned. The main asserts established among others are

  • The Printing Press
  • Food Processing & Preservation Centre
  • Central Research Laboratory

After the review of progress at the end of five years, the CPE status is extended for the second phase period of five years from 2017 to 2022.

The CPE phase II grant is also sanctioned.

The advisory committee meeting was held on14.11.2018 to discuss the agenda

Action Plan of UGC-CPE – Phase –II period from 2017 – 2018 to 2021 – 2022


Members present:

  • Dr. N. Maragatham, Principal&Chairperson, Vellalar College for Women, Erode.
  • Mrs. F. Shahida Shireen, Associate professor& Head, Department of Physics, Coordinator & Member Secretary, Vellalar College for Women, Erode.
  • All the Heads of the departments

Experts:

  • Prof. (Ms.) N. Nandhini , Department of Environmental Science, Bangalore University, Bangaluru – 560066.
  • Dr. (Ms.) Sheena George, Principal, St.Joseph’s College for Women (CPE), Alappuzha,Kerala–688001.

The Coordinator & Member Secretary CPE Advisory Committee Mrs.F. Shahida Shireen briefed on the proposed activities and the proposed utilization of grants sent to UGC during 2016-17 at the end of CPE Phase-I, as a continuation of the XII plan. The fund sanctioned under CPE Phase-II Scheme and also the approved budget on the recommendation of the UGC Expert Committee under the scheme towards non-recurring and recurring expenses for a Period of five years from 2017-18 to 2021-22 was elaborated and also the activities were planned for the year 2018 – 2019.

The following suggestions were given by UGC Experts

  • Plan for organic culture (Spirulina cultivation)
  • Plan for MMRC Lab for Multimedia
  • Conduct Seminars/Conferences/Workshops in collaboration with the University
  • Encourage Students for Internship/ Exchange programmes
  • Establish Industrial Collaboration

After the Advisory Committee meeting the experts visited the Central Research Laboratory, Food Processing & Preservation Centre and Printing Press.

Specific outcome 2018-2019 – CPE Phase-II Scheme

  • Establishment of Image Processing Laboratory
  • Establishment of Pharmacognasy Laboratory
  • Enrichment of research in Theoretical Physics in addition to the existing facilities of experimental physics
  • Development of infrastructure of the Science Laboratories
  • Purchace of Books and Journals on multifarious topics for the Library
  • Community social responsibility activity provided nourishment to the needy pregnant women of the adopted villages
  • Empowerment of women of SHG by marketing their handmade products through College Bazaar
  • Financial independence is enabled for farmers and SHG women through training sessions in income generating theme
  • International and National level Seminars and Workshops are conducted

Excellence is achieved in stages. As a dedicated academic community with nearly adequate infrastructural facilities we are marching towards Excellence.
