About COE Section

Vellalar College for Women, became Autonomous from the academic year 2007-2008 and continues to be affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The Controller of Examinations (COE) office is an important part of the autonomy. The COE Office is responsible for the announcement of academic schedule, preparation of question papers, conduct of examinations, evaluation of answer scripts, declaration of results and issuing of grade sheets. Every academic year, students take up End Semester Examinations in November and April.

The Office of the Controller of Examinations had started functioning from the year 2007. Ever since, the College has proven ability and adequate set up for conducting all its examinations. The office of the Controller of Examination has all the required facilities such as computer facilities, strong room, Air conditioned Question Paper Printing Room and adequate staff to conduct the examinations and publish the results. The institution follows a very clear, well- planned calendar which schedules the examination. Evaluation system is both formative and summative. The formative examination known as the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and has components like written tests, assignments/seminar/quiz and model examination. The CIA marks are displayed in the departmental notice boards and Students are free to bring to the notice of the HOD any likely discrepancies which are rectified soon and the final CIA marks are sent to the Office of the Controller of Examinations. The summative examinations are conducted at the end of the semester. Centralized evaluation is conducted for both UG/PG courses. Dummy numbers are used to maintain confidentiality. OMR sheets are used for entering the marks after both theory and practical evaluation. Final results are normally announced within 15 working days of the last examination.

The college has introduced Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the academic year 2008-2009. Varying credits are assigned to different courses depending on the instructional hours and the nature of the syllabus content. CBCS gives freedom to the students to study courses of their choice and enables transfer of credits if a student migrates to another institution to complete the same programme. It also helps the students to earn more credits than the required minimum by learning extra courses like UGC approved Certificate/ Diploma / Advanced Diploma courses, Bharathiar University approved certificate courses and Self Learning Papers offered by the Departments.

To improve and enhance student learning and teaching quality, our curriculum has been designed based on the approach of Outcome Based Education (OBE) from 2018-2019 and onwards. The central aspect of OBE is to set measurable learning outcomes for programmes and courses and then align it with teaching, learning and assessment processes. Blooms Taxonomy has been used as the basis for setting learning outcomes, teaching methods and in students assessment.
