Department of English UG

The Department of English (SF) was sprouted in the year 2000 and caters to occupy a conspicuous place to enrich the comprehensive reading, communicative capabilities, and analytical writing of the learners of Part II English. The department was broadened to offer Under Graduate Course in English from 2010 with a paramount motive to provide students more opportunity to augment the literary zeal and to develop an appreciation of literature, literary techniques, and enhancement of language-oriented skills along with considerable command of written expressions.

The department became a full-fledged one offering an M.A., English programme in 2015. The courses are offered to nurture the students’ linguistic abilities and literary acumen to meet the rising standards of language and literature and also enable the students to emplane on an expedition to the unfathomable world of literature. Moreover, it provides a broad spectrum of comprehensive Syllabi by blending the traditional approach to expose learners to the salient features of every literary period, genres, and political readings of Contemporary Literature.

HIGHLIGHTS

Extension Activity
The Extension Activity has been carried out at Erode Arima Society Trust to enhance the Basic English Knowledge with special emphasis on grammar and inventive aptitude with children since 2015. As a progression in the service attitude, Environmental Awareness Programme has been initiated in 2020 with the visit at Villarasampatti, one of the UBA adopted villages.
Placement
Placement through On-Campus and Off-campus is a master stroke, as it set the scene for a confident and hopeful life of the students. In accordance with this, every year, a fine number of students are placed in reputed companies like Wipro, TCS, IDBI Federal, AB Academy, Accenta, and Inet Resource.
Bridge Course
To bridge the gap of the beginner students, and to emphasize inevitable role of grammar in Language learning, grammar-focussed teaching sessions were conducted. In addition, Ice-breakers with team-building events and fun sessions have been conducted as a spark of the great start, which deletes hesitation and adds the confidence among them.
English Literary Association Activities
Literary competitions like Strange Meeting, Cosplay, Art from Waste, Literary Quiz, Creative Writing, Collage, Spell Bee, Poetry Writing, Oratorical, Soliloquy and Drama have been conducted to elevate students’ artistic talents and theatrical skills. In addition, Extempore and Essay writing competitions are conducted for the students of various disciplines, which serve as a platform to exhibit their elocution skills and writing proficiency.
Industrial Visit
Industrial Visit is the indispensable component of academic learning; every year students are taken to the Hindu office, Coimbatore so as to instill effective comprehensive skills through hands-on demonstration.
Club Activities
Media and Theatre Clubs encourage the students to exhibit their talent in writing for media, filming the scripts and acting in drama. Students are given the opportunity to understand and develop their skills through conferences, training programs, and competitions such like short films, creative writing and one-act plays.
